Somatheeram Ayurveda Village

Somatheeram Hospital and it's employees made our holiday really relaxing. We had great massages every day and interesting ayurveda treatments which helped us completely distress and relax in this beautiful ayurveda hospital in a resort ambiance full of greenery. Every day we tried different local delicacies which was something totally new to us, but we got use to it and like it a lot. All the employees of the hospital were friendly ,helpful and smiling. We are looking forward to come again.

Great rejuvenation

I stayed for 2 weeks to treat Aryurveda. This is the first time to visit. Most of stuff were very kindl and location was very good. I was introduced this Centre by my friend. Next time if I have a opprotunity to visit here, I want to visit again. But it was rainy season, so that weather was bud most of every day.
Room Tip: This was a traditional building in Kerala.

Good Aryurveda.

Somatheeram was the perfect hospital with resort amenities for the Yoga Retreat I ran the facilities environment and staff were wonderful. I also met some delightful people from France & Germany . This is a fabulous hospital for ayuvedtic treatments. This wonderful thing was it was so relaxed and guests could hang out after treatments in their green treatment robes turbans and a green face .It was even cool to go to dinner or lunch in that attire I would highly recommend the experience

Yoga Retreat

My wife and I spent two weeks at Somatheeram Ayurvedic Hospital. The principal purpose of our visit was to take advantage of the Ayurvedic treatment provided by the hospital's therapists and doctors. Situated on top of hillock with greenery all round it (almost being like in a botanical garden) and with a view from a distance of the Arabian Sea, it is a perfect location to relax and have the daily massages and other oil treatment provided. Friendly and courteous staff of the hospital as well as the Ayurvedic centre. Strongly recommend to those who want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Hotel has a very green and beautiful territory. But beware that it's very hilly and you will have to go up and down all the time. We stayed in Special Garden Cottage category. All rooms looks like autenctic kerala houses (if you like only modern style you may not like it) but it has everything you need. Even flat tv set, air conditionar (for extra charge), all nescerry amenities in the bathroom. Shower again a bit old fashion but ok. I really liked the space near the cottage with hammock. WIFI was there but i heard it wasn't great in all rooms. In our it was ok. The beach is nice and empty. Hotel put their own free of charge sun loungers and umbrellas. There is also a guard on the bech who looks after your personal belonings. The sea was refreshing and wavy but i still like it. To get to the beach you have to go down and than up for 10 minutes on quite a hard steps. It can be a bit tiring. Ayurveda center is nice. Have no complains for doctors or therapists. They looked quite professional. But i took only couple procedures there. Since we were not on proper ayurveda treatment i liked that in the restaurant there was an al carte option with western meal and meat options (unlike pure vergetarian ayurvedic buffet). At the evening they provide some light entertaining like indian dancing or music here or in the Manaltheeram hotel. I think it's a good option for ayurveda treatment and quite relaxing beach holidays.

Very peaceful and green hotel with good ayurveda center

After some less than luxurious as advertised properties, it was an anxious lead up to our visit to Somatheeram. All fears were allayed starting with the seamless pick up at Tiravandrum Railway station at 7am; arriving and checking in in a light pre-monsoon, cooling rain; the sound, sight and smell of the salty ocean; the light, airy, clean bungalow with crisp white sheets and towels; the bountiful, South Indian cuisine; the sometimes hilarious Ayurvedic treatments; the comraderie of the other inmates ... guests (see attached photo for fabulous green robes); and the care and attention to detail shown by all the staff. Why is this my perfect spa retreat? Because all my needs were met: When is yoga? When is my next treatment? What great food can I eat now? Thank you for a refreshing, relaxing and reinvigorating window in time.

My perfect spa retreat in India. Ω

just loved it! the place, the nature, the beach, the food, the treatment, "The ayurveda people" this is a very good place to have Ayurvedic treatment. My cottage was in front of the sea with A/C, quiet and clean, neat room. Before sunrise I wake up and meditate in the garden till the fisherman return. Loved the beach and also the swimming pool. Everything was just perfect. I enjoyed every single ayurvedic meal. I felt 10 years younger after 1 week of treatments. Highly recommended!!!!
Room Tip: in front of the sea...loved the sound of the sea and the fisherman coming back after a long night

perfect for ayurveda initation experience

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying for 14 nights at the beautiful Somatheeram Ayuveda Resort and can unreservedly recommend it for the excellence of all its services. The rooms are independent cottages with sea view which are immaculately maintained. We were in 406 which overlooks the beach from the clifftop - what a view each morning watching the local fisherman bring in their overnight catches. No pleasure boats or surfers here!!.
We both tried the Ayuvedic massages which were very beneficial and really relaxing after the stress of driving n Indian roads! The food is first class with a wide selection of freshly prepared vegetarian dishes as well as a non-veg option at lunch (fish) and dinner (chicken). There is entertainment most evenings all of which are indigenous and help to expand the Indian experience. We were fortunate in that our visit coincided with the Onam festivities and special feasting and additional festive activities were laid on.
A big thank you to all the staff who looked after us so well especially Krishnapriya who is an absolute treasure.
Room Tip: The cliff top rooms have wonderful views but the sound of the ocean can be quite loud - you may pref...

Idyllic hotel with wonderful views and great service

I stayed here for five days with my Mother in a garden cottage. The room was very clean, spacious and had a partial view of the ocean. We opted for the pay as you go room rather than doing a beauty package. We booked by emailing Somatheeram directly and were not offered free breakfast, however, breakfast is included if you book on booking.com. The ayurvedic therapists are great and the whole experience is very relaxing. My only annoyance came when paying the bill. Somatheeram gave us a final bill that was not reflective of our stay, and said they would email a copy of the itemised bill which has never turned up. The administration at Somatheeram is terrible. The staff are all very kind but there are no administrative processes in place. The avoid issues with payment I suggest booking an all inclusive package.

Relaxing stay

Overall a great place to come for a health stay. Great service and treatments, close and individual daily follow up. We did not go on many excursions (just Backwaters and Elephant hospital) since we came to Somatheeram for their well know treatments. This is a place you come to charge you batteries not to enjoy night life

Great resort for ayurvedic treatment

I just had 6 days at Somatheeram. Not long enough but excellent all round, including rooms, service, yoga and health treatments. The gardens are gorgeous and hearing the crashing waves on the beach made it all the more surreal. Off season even better!

Great place for Ayurveda treatment

I have stayed here twice in August, 2013 and August, 2015. If you will visit Ayurveda health resort, I strongly recommend staying here. Ayurveda treatment, ayurvedic food, Kerala house, the Indian Ocean that I could see from room, everything was wonderful. At the both time, I spent blissful time, listening sound of waves and birds song.

Detox was never such great fun until i came here

This beautiful resort is situated in Chowara, south of Triviandrum in the state og Kerala in India. If you buy a package deal, for example rejuvination therapy, massage, yoga, visit to the ayurveda doctor every morning, transfer to/from airport, indian vegetarian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner - everything is included. I stayed in a garden cottage, view over the arabian sea - clean, and nice. I visit this place for treatment and yoga and to live a healthy life. There is a beautiful beach with private beachchairs and staff who are there to help out. Alle the people working there, from the reception staff, drivers, gardeners, restaurant staff ,therapists, doctors - they are so friendly, just beautiful people that want to do the best for you. This was my third visit and I will definetely go back.

Visited for 3 weeks with my daughter in September. We chose the 21 day weight loss programme...but I think most of the treatments are very similar anyway. Right from our arrival we were made to feel very welcome...the staff were always offering to help in any way...and the staff we didn't have direct contact with were always smiling and saying hello as we passed by. I especially would like to thank Dr Seena and Dr Sijartha for their professionalism and advice. They took great care of us. My therapists were Sheela and Athira...very friendly, chatty when I wanted and not noisy when I wanted to be a little quiet....but always happy to explain my treatments. They were wonderful ladies. A special mention to Jodhi who welcomed us to the Ayurveda Centre each visit...a most pleasant young lady...she was wonderful. The rooms...while not luxurious...were comfortable. Would have liked another chair so we didn't have to sit on the bed al the time...but I'm sure if we asked for it, they would have given us one. We found the mattresses on the beds a little too thin...but when I mentioned it, we were the same day, given thicker mattresses...they were ,much more comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very tasty...we really enjoyed the vegetarian foods. We found a few of the dishes were a little to spicy for us, but overall, they were flavourful. The manager, Sivraj, went beyond his duty to make us feel at home...always available to explain various dishes & their ingredients...and telling us what they were good for in our bodies. He recommended a particular coffee with ginger, cardamom & palm sugar to me as I had developed quite a bad sore throat & a cough...it worked wonders...stopping my cough for several hours each time. It very quickly almost completely cured the cough and sore throat. His staff are mostly friendly too. The housekeeping staff were happy people...it was great having our beds made for us every day. The resort is always kept clean & tidy...there are garden staff everywhere trimming, sweeping and caring for it all. A bonus for us was the brand new swimming pool...it had been open only a month...great to relax and watch the fishermen from the infinity edge. Overall we had a lovely time and were sad to leave...we will definitely return...,aye I'll bring my husband next time.
